Christina is a very emotionally available actor. This came across through all aspects of the show. I enjoyed her characterizations of the other people in her life. She made them very specific, especially her mother who had interesting (and kind of wacky) body language! Her stagecraft was also very good, utilizing every part of the stage and prop on it to create a thorough world of those who touched and influenced her life. This made the show feel like a multi-character play, rather than simply a long monologue.
What I didn't like
I realize there’s a time limit for all these Fringe shows so, often, performers need to squeeze in everything they want to say in too short a period of time. In this case, I think the show moved slightly too fast, which is probably because of that time constraint. I would have liked a bit slower pace which I think would have made some of the comedic and heartfelt moments land more effectively. I don’t know what the fix for this would be under the Fringe circumstances, other than removing some content to allow other parts to breath a little more. Having said that, I still very much enjoyed the performance.
My overall impression
I’ve seen Christina’s work before and also directed her in a short film. Her performance in BATHROOMDIARIES showcased her skills to a great extent. She’s a talented, emotionally present actor who is committed to her character (in this case, characters!) Here, she’s put her own very personal and often painful story on display in a way that highlights both her humor and pathos.
