I’d love to see this developed further, where we go even deeper into the height of her “business”. What was her personal life like? Which could be completely fictionalised. Did she ever go to bed with shameful thoughts or regrets…?
My overall impression
Venessa delivers an impactful performance in this 30 minute one woman show.
A story that has us think about why some people end up becoming who they are and doing what they do. The reasons and justifications, and ultimately asks the question: Who hurt you?
In this show, through Venessa’s powerful and dynamic portrayal of the Russian Madam Tetyana Komisaruk, we get to learn who indeed hurt her, and how her childhood and young adulthood led her to the US and into a life of trafficking girls.
Venessa instills dread and fear, and completely disappears into the role. She is intimidating and scary, until you meet Venessa after the show. That’s one good actress!
