This As You Like It is funny, heartfelt, and refreshingly clear. Colleen Hammond Whitmore’s direction honors the original text while making it feel totally alive. It’s a great reminder that Shakespeare can be fun, breezy, and full of joy. Even if you usually brace yourself before a Shakespeare show, this one invites you in and keeps you right there with it the whole time. The cut of this show still tells the plot perfectly while allowing plenty of laughs and just enough time for us to feel like each couple earns their endings, even our Fools! With a double cast, the cast on the night that I saw was incredible all around, with a notably strong performance from Alfredo Melita as Orlando. What do you get when you combine a phenomenal cast, a great work of Shakespeare, and only give them an hour? An incredibly delightful show that had me laughing, applauding, and wanting to see more! What a delightful adaptation of this Shakespearean comedy. Colleen's minimalist approach doesn't lose the heart found in the Forest of Arden. Eileen Arce as Rosalind was a true joy to watch on stage - do yourself a favor and don't miss her this Fringe season. (Though with two rotating casts, you can't go wrong with any show you catch!)
