The character work is excellent throughout. I was immediately drawn in by the warmth of Cheyenne Washington’s performance. Her character arc is paced just right, as well as her relationships with Martha (Elektra Cohen) and Vanessa (Marie Wilde) through both good times and bad. I felt emotional connections to each of the women.
Tanner Hake as Brayson shined through his impressive character work and presence— each moment he was on stage felt intentional and grounded. His dialect is distinctly accurate to the region and time period, and there’s a truthful quality to his choices that is exceptionally raw and vulnerable. Hake’s chemistry with everyone in this cast is evident in his comfort to truly sink into character. He carries the kind of captivating energy you can’t keep your eyes off of. Every time he was in a scene, I was glued to what he would do next— and each moment had a natural subtlety that points to a deep well of talent as an actor. He was a standout on that stage from start to finish.
The entire cast of Wilhelmina work together as one to create a poignant, captivating story.
What I didn't like
Some transitional moments could be tightened. However, if given an intermission, I think that would likely be resolved.
My overall impression
A cohesive and rich storyline. Each actor breathed life into their characters and really provided a round, immersive experience for viewers.
