Queen of the World: An Evening with Marlene Dietrich is, in two words, masterpiece theatre. I am unfamiliar with Ivette Viñas or her previous work, but this solo show is at another level! Just like the subject of her show who engrossed fans worldwide, Viñas is utterly captivating in her portrayal.
The entire show is a series of conversations that Dietrich, fresh from a live performance, has with her book writer, Johnny (unseen). She sits at her dressing room table, applying make-up and weaving a tale about her sexual adventures, co-stars, and family.
As certain names are discussed, their images (mostly vintage movie clips) are projected on the wall. These visual collages of events, people, and the real Dietrich herself, sell the show...
