It was relatable – not just for the art teachers among us, but for anyone who has questioned the trajectory of their life and is confronting the realities of middle age, mental health, substance use, and death.
Excellent direction and staging / use of the space and a great performance by Ben in the starring role.
Worked very well overall and no major notes for a show with a complex narrative structure that feels very seamless.
What I didn't like
As a singer, I’m picking up on vocal strain at times in the show. The subglottal pressure on your chords is too much (note for both male singers) and it will reduce the longevity of your voice. If you’re able to increase the efficiency of your glottis, you will find that the notes come out easier and sound better. Lol, would love to work on that technique with folks.
But, y’all’s harmonies were tight and y’all stayed in tune, which is more than I can always say about myself. Bravo! And lmk if you want to work on any of the high notes that are sung in/with full chest!
My overall impression
A fun and entertaining show that nevertheless grapples with the painful realities of growing older and the legacy each of us will leave.
