What I liked
I loved the use of cards as a language for communicating between the two characters. This worked really well for me and I completely understood everything that was happening the whole time (when I could see the cards, that is). I thought it was so powerful how talking was saved for very specific moments at the very end.
What I didn't like
My only piece of feedback is that it is a bit challenging to see the action on the floor from any seats that aren’t in the front row in The Broadwater’s studio theater. I wonder if there is a way to be more mindful of the audience arrangement to make it a little easier to ensure the audience members can clearly see which cards are in play during a scene.
My overall impression
52 Pick-Up is a beautiful, powerful piece of clowning, full of real heart. I recommend this show to anyone who is a fan of clowning, or those who are clown-curious. You’ll be moved. You’ll have fun. You’ll even want to dance!
