What I liked

The surprises and the re-enactments.

What I didn't like

I thought the whole thing was artfully done and I was very hooked by the middle but the beginning started off a bit slower. I think ultimately that’s needed but I wonder if there’s a way to shock us right up front or hook us in quicker. More so because trauma and childhood stories are often themes in one person shows, we want to be pulled right in. Not that we need to be trauma dumped on for entertainment sake but we want to find out why we need to hear this story. Just a thought.

My overall impression

Every human is complicated and nuanced and Jersey Devil does a beautiful job of sharing the complexities of its subject from a place of healing and distance. It’s funny, shocking, and masterful storytelling.
