The cast is talented and committed. The music is fine if not particularly noteworthy. The plot is a good enough structure upon which to hang TV references and parodies. This really was a case of “not my thing.” Having not watched that much TV, I didn’t get / care about the cleverness of the references and didn’t find the story strong enough to engage me throughout. If you dig Nick at Nite and classic sitcoms, you’ll probably enjoy this much more than I did. On a purely technical level, there also were moments that the recorded tracks overwhelmed the actors’ singing. I’m guessing that this will be ironed out since I saw the show in preview.
