A 2025 Hollywood Fringe Scholarship Winner, Natural Born Citizen is a heartfelt and humorous solo show about identity, belonging, and the power of self-acceptance. Set in post-9/11 America, it follows a Muslim, first-generation American navigating their freshman year at a new high school—dodging the question “Where are you from?” with small lies to fit in. But when they run for Class Vice President against the popular girl and the lovable jock, they begin to embrace their identity instead of hiding it.
As school life shifts, family secrets emerge, leading to a transformative Election Day and a deeper reckoning with who they are.
Through vivid storytelling, characters, and one ironically unforgettable campaign slogan,Natural Born Citizen explores the immigrant experience, cultural expectations, and the complicated truth behind a simple question.
