Chance Lang’s play “Going Home” engages timeless themes in the high-stake tensions of the mafia genre. The remarkable cast featuring Chance Lang, Mo LeBlanc, Vincent Giovanni, and Kory Karam are a delight to watch as they showcase a skilled intimacy with one another and a mastery of the material through emotionally charged well-choreographed scenes exploring one’s vulnerability and strengths through the shapeshifting events of Lang’s story.
What I didn't like
The lighting could be brighter at the back of the stage. The cast keeps the tension throughout, and I only suggest allowing a moment of pause for the audience’s reaction before they speak their next lines as we are filled with anticipation to hear their next words. But these are minor notes and I’m very excited to see Chance Lang advance new material and his next play and see these actors surprise us again with their generous performances!
My overall impression
Chance Lang stars in “Going Home” a compelling coming-of-age mafia drama and captivates his audience with a well-crafted witty script and dynamic cast ensnared in a play of love, sacrifice, honor, and salvation. Lang keeps it edgy, unfolding the universal complexities of the human condition that reckon with circumstances and choices that can define and defile us. Thea Lux directs a strong and talented ensemble with Chance Lang, Vincent Giovanni, Kory Karam and Mo LeBlanc through intimate scenes that poignantly embrace the uncertainty and possibility of our times. Get your tickets! This is a must see play from an ensemble of gifted actors that we will definitely be seeing more from!
