What I liked

All the stars align beautifully for this show! With stellar writing, direction, and acting, not a single detail is overlooked or underplayed. First and foremost, heavy applause goes to Michael Shaw Fisher, not only for his brilliant words, but also, for his stellar direction. The vision for the Amazing Sex Life of Rabbits offers belly laughs a-plenty while also throwing in some deeper thoughts about the nature of money, relationships present and past, and what it means to “rise to the challenge.”

This cast of four actors are collectively stars. I do offer highest praise to two of them: first, Richardson Cisneros-Jones is again a scene-stealing machine of pure talent. Some of the best lines of the show belong to him. For example, my absolute favorite gem, “A woman will do things a tent she normally wouldn’t.”

Secondly, I must also offer recognition to Leigh Wulff for a cool, richly-hysterical portrayal of the infertile Elise. While she is set up to be the straight character, when she starts to cut loose (literally), make no mistake, she stands out!

What I didn't like

My only note is concerning the music at the very end of the piece. It was not the most appealing to hear.

My overall impression

When it comes to the Amazing Sex Life of Rabbits, I can best sum it up by quoting Shakespeare, “The play’s the thing!” Classifying itself as comedic theatre is truly an understatement for how rich the subject, characters, and overall production aesthetics are in Michael Shaw Fisher’s play. Allow me to “hop” on the bandwagon of praise the show richly deserves. For this play serves up a bevy of personality with a side dish of aphrodisia-infused banter.

As the foursome of players come together, the dynamics of the two married couples come to life. Bobby and Elise are stable, yet financially underwhelming. While Bobby’s ex-wife, Danielle and her extremely wealthy husband, Carson represent the elite with a penchant for tumult. The couples gather over the course of a meal to discuss procreation and the struggle there within.

What unfolds is an over-the-top request a la the movie Indecent Proposal (with Shaw throwing in a dash of dadaism). Reason is thrown out the window. Money-for-Sex is on the menu. And the result is a “hare” raising hour of what makes the fringe so gosh darn amazing!
