When Andrea puts on those sunglasses and seamlessly slips into the character of her mother, I laughed so hard I was crying—every single time.
What I didn't like
The Taylor Swift song was funny but I was also craving more “purely Andrea” moments, although I did like how it changed up the tone and format of the show for a couple of minutes. I don’t know that it needs to be “improved”—just an obseration.
My overall impression
AOASGWAED was a fearless, heartbreaking, and hilarious performance that seamlessly carried the audience through a lifetime of trauma transformed into a life of healing, strength, and forgiveness. Abbate’s ability to pull humor from the darkest places is as extraordinary as her ability to survive and transcend the tragedies that befell her. This was an inspiring, shocking, and evocative performance grounded in emotional integrity.
