What I liked

I don’t do horror. This was SPECTACULAR. Rachel Hip-Flores’ performance is raw and her connection with the audience makes the scene unfolding on-stage all the more unsettling. But the usually-grisly horrorific ending is swapped for something unexpectedly wholesome, even hopeful. A wonderful bittersweet ending for an outstanding piece!

What I didn't like

Not a damn thing. This is gloriously handled.

My overall impression

Truly scary theatre can be difficult to put together on a Fringe stage (& budget). THE VISITOR excels, using its space perfectly, and a combination of excellent sound, lighting, staging, and practical effects to send chills down your spine. James’ work is a favorite of mine, and THE VISITOR follows his marvelous pattern of taking a known show trope and not only nailing it, then twisting it into a whole new shape. A fantastic 45 minutes!
