I appreciated the real experiences Dee portrayed from his experiences, even though it was painful to watch at times. I’m glad Dee stood up to some of the people who treated him with racism, like the Pokémon scene and the co-worker at the restaurant who commented “we already got rid of one of you…you’re next”. I also liked how Dee explored the complexity of being biracial, being seen as Chinese by white people, being seen as white by Chinese coworker. Being biracial isn’t a common story we get to hear in media etc. I liked the narration that Dee had between scenes where he added some more comments from his experience. So proud of you Dee! This took so much courage and vulnerability to share these stories. Thank you for sharing the truth and reality of racism that you experienced.
What I didn't like
I wonder what it would be like to have Dee share a scene where he processes his emotions after a racist experience, like with a trusted friend or even by himself. But maybe that isn’t what Dee did so it wouldn’t be true to his story??
My overall impression
Loved it!! An honest, raw and brave portrayal of a biracial Chinese & white male’s experience dealing with painful racist interactions.
