The storytelling took us on a journey through key points in a life in a highlight reel type fashion. The comedic chops of some actors and the dramatic believability of others gave the show a nice range of experiences. Without spoiling it, the gameboy scene, where we see what friendship can look like in this experience, was powerful.
What I didn't like
Overall, projection could be higher. I was in the front and some of it was hard to hear. Stage left is creaky and at one point the setup for the next vignette overpowered the scene playing out in stage right.
My overall impression
This is an important conversation about the Asian-American experience that is scarcely being talked about. The play balances humor with drama and I found myself leaning forward as the intensity of the performances gripped me on this wild vignette style ride. It also lends itself to key perspectives that I hadn’t known as a white person.
