My overall impression
This production of Venus in Fur is a Fringe must-see. Rachael Meyers and Bryan McKinley deliver masterclass performances under the razor-sharp direction of Amir Korangy.
Rachael Meyers hits it out of the park as Vanda. She breezes in with chaotic energy, commanding the stage from her first line, only to unravel layer after layer of brilliance, intellect, and power as the evening progresses. Her transitions between the erratic actress and the sophisticated dominatrix are seamless.
Bryan McKinley gives a layered, compelling portrayal of Thomas. He is a masterful, beautiful bundle of conflicting emotions. He captures the character’s initial self-assuredness and gradually exposes his vulnerabilities with subtlety and restraint.
Director Amir Korangy orchestrates this intricate dance with intelligence and flair. The transitions between play and reality are handled with such deftness that the audience is never left behind, but only becomes increasingly enthralled.
