a peacock in the rubble
VIVI THAI certified reviewer June 09, 2025
A beautifully raw and honest account of Marissa's experience with a side of OCD that isn't discussed much. It's funny and heartwarming, and like so many stories that tell the truth about the human experience, it is so very relatable. Even with a full house, Marissa makes it feel like she is talking intimately to you; she has a rare gift. The show flows so well that you don't even notice the time passed, and want to know more!, when it is done. This performance is exactly what makes Fringe Festival worth checking out. You'll be so glad you caught this one. Brava!... full review

In this very personal show, Marissa takes challenging topics like grief, OCD, and deep sadness and turns them into art. She imagines loving and caring for her six-year-old self, and I imagined her loving and caring for the audience in the same way. Please go check out this heartfelt and warm show about painful scary things. They don’t seem so painful or scary after a ukulele serenade of “The way you look tonight.”... full review

Raw honesty personified and a poignant look at the challenges that just seem to dart at us from endless directions in the absurd and cruel society we all live in. Sprouting out from all the pain however, is undeniable and glorious optimism and a measured acceptance that cuts deep, and gently urges us to carry on. Marrissa Rutka dares to dig through it all, baring and exposing an upbringing of a tender soul out of sorts, that you feel like you've known for quite a while by the end. It certainly turned out to be an exploration I didn't know I needed. ... full review

The resilience, poignance and beauty found in such a curveball from life (on so many different levels) is incredibly inspiring. This story is at times heart wrenching, at other times really funny, all told by someone with a stage presence a thousand times her own size. ... full review
