About the Project
Barbie Lazaro is a community advocate and comedian based in South Florida. Her efforts are focused on sexual assault. She utilizes the performance arts to give sexual harassment issues a more imaginative and thought provoking spin. Tales of Harassment(ToH) was born out of Barbie’s need to cope with the slurs, whistles and other lewd behavior in public spaces. ToH creates safe spaces for women to share their stories, stresses the importance of trauma resolution, and builds community rooted in common experiences…all while using comedy to cope. ToH is a bold, honest, and liberating ride that seeks to empower victims and promote social structures that foster compassion, understanding, and empathy. Barbie has inspired women in Edinburgh(Fringe Festival), Los Angeles, Lisboa, Madrid, Miami, and New York to lift their voices and begin the process of trauma resolution.
