fuck! an iceberg: a one woman titanic with magic preshow

Mallie McCown's madcap reimagining of James Cameron’s $220 million epic is ambitious beyond words, which is the source for most of the problems that plague this production. Those problems aside, McCown’s show is staggeringly clever and more fun than a barrel of monkeys in a lifeboat. Full review to follow. ... full review

FUCK! An Iceberg: A One Woman Titanic with Magic Preshow has witty and brilliantly acted Noises Off style of debauchery that is interwoven with some of the most honesty and heart I think I have ever seen a performer put onstage. Mal brings a piece of her past self with her through this journey of retelling the Titanic to move through her personal Icebergs with writing that is approachable, endearing and overall heart-wrenchingly beautiful with it's authenticity. From the incredible script, the energy and vast emotional depth that Mal can act from, the direction into still telling a witty, tight retelling of a beloved movie (succesfully!!) in a live theater all complimented by astounding magic done by Dylan.... this was the best Fringe Show I... full review

This sprawling story masterfully ties together heartfelt journal entries, a hilarious Titanic parody, and several magic tricks into a tightly crafted commentary on youth, dreams, and the obstacles that stand in our way. Mallie McCown shines in a highly technical, wildly imaginative, and strikingly vulnerable performance you have to see to fully comprehend. The production is one of the most ambitious I’ve seen, but miraculously through the chaos and countless props and costume pieces Mallie sticks the landing in a truly delightful Fringe show.... full review

There’s a wonderful joke in this show that I was my absolute favorite. Now, I dare not spoil it for you, you’re just gonna have to see the show for that, but let’s just say it’s a reference to a certain “length of time” which acts as a funny, and sobering, reminder of just how much ground there is to cover for one person re-enacting James Cameron’s Titanic. In Oh, Fuck! An Iceberg, powerhouse of energy Mallie McCown commands the stage and does exactly that. She re-enacts Titantic by herself. For the most part. It’s absolutely worth pointing out that there is an extremely memorable assist from Dylan George as the titular, crass and sassy Iceberg. George is also wonderfully charismatic at warming the crowd up with an entertaining display o... full review

Mallie McCown is completely insane and ridiculously brilliant. I love parodies but I did not see this one coming! I was in jaw dropped awe the entire time at her ability to effortless switch characters, voices, and physicality in an instant. There were moments she played 4-5 different characters almost simultaneously and yet none of them got lost in the chaos. The use of props, set pieces, and water to show the sinking of the Titanic was astoundingly creative. Mallie's talent, commitment to the absurdity, and impressive stamina made this one of the best shows in Fringe. I hope this show exists beyond fringe and finds a life somewhere. It gave me Point Break Live! vibes and Los Angeles desperately needs another long running show like that.... full review

I haven't been able to stop thinking about this show for the past few days. Mallie's play felt like a warm hug. It made me feel like I was reconnecting with a long-lost friend, which is crazy because we have never met before. Using her real-life journal entries as the through-line was nothing short of genius. It provided a truly real and grounding spine to an otherwise marathon of chaos. My stomach hurt from laughing so hard, and then I had to rush to grab a tissue at the end. I feel bad for anyone who is unable to see this show as it is easily the top of the Fringe this year.... full review
