The sleepover scene really captured the way girls that ages relate to themselves and each other— the underlying sense of “something is very wrong with me,” the subtle put-downs, the posturing and vying for status— everything in that scene rang very true to me.
Jeni Seidler Wilson’s performance as “Mom” was especially moving and grounded— she beautifully captured the helplessness and love of motherhood.
Tommi Jo Mongold as “Andy” was spot-on in their portrayal of teenage insecurity, but I appreciated how they also brought different shades to the character— yes, Andy is afraid and self-conscious, but we also see glimpses of the funny, strong person they will continue to become.

My overall impression
An endearing and heartfelt journey through female puberty, featuring moments of heartbreak and hilarity. The ensemble brought so much vulnerability and sensitivity to their performances. It was like a trip back to my own adolescence!
