I first met Charlene during a Fringe office hour, where an awkward question of mine—“Congrats, when are you due?”—became the perfect introduction to her show’s subject. Instead of embarrassment, she offered me a warm, steady smile and explained that her piece was precisely about these moments. If not for that encounter, I might have missed this extraordinary performance. I’ll admit, I often feel uneasy watching deeply personal stories unfold onstage, worried that I’m observing someone’s pain like a spectacle. But Charlene’s presence dissolved that discomfort. For an hour, she radiated a serenity that felt almost transcendent. With her precise diction and luminous humor, she transformed what could have been a tragic account into somethi... full review

Charlene delivers a beautifully told story about discovery, advocacy, and the fight to never give up for what you believe is right. I learned a tremendous amount by watching "She's About to Pop!". It's a story that needs to be told to more people, to help inform people, and to help inspire people. ... full review

Smart. Insightful. Powerful. Vulnerable. Absolutely loved it! This show and the actor / writer Charlene Modeste were outstanding. She had us captivated from the moment she stepped on stage. What a powerful presence, full of wisdom, strength and courage. We also learned so much from this show. This is what empowerment looks like - trust - instinct - feminism - enlightening - truth. Thank you Charlene!!... full review

This show was so wonderful. Charlene delivers her story with such grace, and empowerment over something that many of us women don’t know very much about- our uterus. And how she portrays the uterus as a goddess of an incredible power was inspiring! Fantastic direction by Julie Pearson, making great use of the space and lighting and sound design (especially with the uterus). I walked away with a new appreciation about the importance of my body as well as a desire to learn more about the medicinal properties of cannabinoids and how we can explore the healing with the power of plant medicine. ... full review

I loved this show!! A fascinating look at Charlene's journey with her fibroids. This show was funny, thought-provoking, and deeply personal, while still being relatable to the issues that women, especially Black/woc, face in the healthcare system. With a minimal set, the show was so creative in how she explored all of the different ideas she was going through. This show is a treat, and it feels very true to the spirit of Fringe. ... full review
