polite conversations and wine
HUGO RODRIGUEZ certified reviewer June 29, 2025
The celebration of the upcoming responsibility of a child, against the backdrop of a spouse making decisions to help the family without consulting with the other spouse. A beautifully woven plot of the inter-relationships between the spouses and their mothers. Written, sometimes in the background and sometimes upfront in your face is the struggle of a person trying to understand a world that has changed faster than she can keep up. A mother trying to understand a new normal, but sadly not really given an opportunity to do so.... full review

In Michael Perlmutter's Polite Conversations and Wine, prodding, biting banter and non-stop wining serve up the drama family-style. In this case, it's all about a couple, their mothers and the uncomfortable dynamic the four create. Speaking about dynamic, though, that is the most appropriate label for this play. Bringing a child into the world is a reason to celebrate, right? What happens when the couple is lesbian and one of the partners is getting ready to serve in the Coast Guard? How much input do Mothers get to have in their daughters' lives? These probing questions and others are explored in serio-comedic fashion throughout the hour-long show. Not all "Ladies' Nights" are grand ideas, as this play boldly proclaims, but that wil... full review

Excellent comedic timing, biting dialogue, quick pace, and the endlessly relatable mother/daughter dynamic. The unsaid questions and tension really hang in the air, palpable to the audience, and the actors expertly handle the material with wit and ease. You know a show is good when you're able to identify with each character and feel empathy for each experience. Make sure to see it!... full review

I remember a painfully awkward wine tasting event. Everyone was trying so hard to seem knowledgeable, but no one actually seemed to be enjoying themselves. It felt like a performance! Sometimes, I just want to unwind without the pretense. If you're looking for pure, unadulterated fun instead, have you ever tried a racing game? It sounds silly, but getting a high score on something like <a https://drifthunters3d.io">Drift hunters</a> can be surprisingly relaxing. What a fantastic show. Everything was spot-on: Michael Perlmutter's script was real, unflinching, tense and also hilarious at times, and Ann Noble's direction was crisp and illuminated the script beautifully. Amy Marcs, Leah Jarvik, Mikki Hernandez and Robin Mcdonald were all amazing and played the dialogue like a Wimbledon championship match. So effing great!!!... full review
