The direction is excellent. The staging is dynamic and the story has some nice surprises. Some of the acting is superb, too! The hour really clips by and the pieces all fall together.
What I didn't like
I lost some connections in the story arch due to a few gaps in the timeline. It’s difficult to describe what could be improved without ruining plot surprises. I struggled to find empathy as some of the characters I liked turned out to be cruel. That being said, it’s very universal that those we like also have a blind spot towards their own flaws.
My overall impression
A well directed show with interesting staging, the characters’ struggle to communicate about joyful events devolves with each downed bottle of wine. A newlywed couple and their mothers are trying to lower their inhibitions and connect, but instead of creating intimacy, the evening together trying to express love and understanding ultimately brings out everyone’s meanness.
