Maybe I’m sick and twisted… maybe I’m just a little bit fucked up, but my big complaint about Brandon Baruch’s amazing new play is what we DON’T SEE. Sure, there’s plenty of AMAZINGLY awesome and super connected moments between his two leads (Benjamin Durham and Sto Strouss) – but I really wanted this to be the play that didn’t have any limits and didn’t hold back – and in that respect, it kind of fell flat for me.
Now, don’t get me wrong. This is a great show, and Durham and Strouss are giving it their all. Even Lizzie Adelman, who I was admittedly underwhelmed by for most of the show has her moment to shine about an hour in.
Me Love Me is a 90% committed, balls to the wall, fully realized production that doesn’t hold back. And that’s awesome when it’s working. But please audiences, be advised. This is a dark Comedy – allow yourselves to laugh and you’ll have way more fun.
