David Arkenstone’s score captures all the whimsy, joy, and mystery we have come to expect from an imagined vision of Paris. Several standout performers bring the music to life with professional-caliber vocals, helping to elevate the show’s overall presentation.
What I didn't like
I wouldn’t recommend trying to follow the story too closely, as the climax may come across as rushed or underwhelming. While the cast’s various vocal and dance performances also range in quality, there are still plenty of musical and visual treats to be transported on a lighthearted Parisian adventure!
My overall impression
Mona Lisa Missing! The Musical! is a fun piece of transportive theatre, largely thanks to the wonderful score by David Arkenstone and the dedicated cast of character actors. The show is produced at a particularly impressive scale for the Fringe, with physical props set against a large video screen to set the scene. There are also a few standout vocal performances among the cast, enhancing the already enchanting live music. While fun, the story can be confusing at times; though, in the end, it hardly matters enough to dampen the show’s overall joie de vivre.
