What I liked

How Sam integrated music and Cherokee language into the healing elements of the story that already worked on so many lyrical and poetic levels was beautiful. It is a reminder of how powerful our personal story can be and how limiting ourselves to be one thing and one thing only is a tool of oppression and of the colonizer. This multi sensory experience cultivated by such a multitalented individual is a sight to see.

What I didn't like

I would love to see it have a wider audience. I think there’s great potential in adapting this for a school tour, actually. It addresses important topics through the eyes of a 14 year old and is speaks to so many things so many children aren’t allowed to give voice to.

My overall impression

Sam has put together an incredible tour de force full of laughter, heart, and pain that mindfully carries you through not only the experience of living with intergenerational trauma personally, but also as a national and global community. It becomes a multi sensory experience of true intergenerational HEALING.
