What I liked

I appreciated the tone of the show. Instead of being bogged down by heavy subject matter, Sam really shines a light on those topics with levity, grace, and humor that makes you understand its severity without ever becoming dreary. The show is filled with hope.

What I didn't like

I think the use of props could be possibly integrated into the show with more fluidity, although we are in the brain of a 14 year old with ADHD, so it also adds to the character. I also think the opening “spacing out” moment might work better if extended and played around with more.

My overall impression

Missions analyzes the intersection of religion, sexuality, and indigeneity in a confrontational yet humorous way that will have you laughing the entire length of the show. Sam Bowling offers a comedic peak into the life of a 14-year-old girl who is sent on a church mission to West Virginia and uncovers a lot about what that means. Go watch this show if you want to have a good time and support indigenous creators! You won’t regret it!
