The small black space was intimate and was needed to put us up close to this engaging story
What I didn't like
I cant quite put my finger on it, but perhaps a scene or a beat or tone change to break up the story a bit
My overall impression
“Painted Ponies” handles emotional and thought-provoking themes. But an intense script needs a great cast, and McRae, along with director Elina de Santos, nailed it by casting Rachel Sorsa. Sorsa’s performance is outstanding, bringing depth and authenticity to her role.
Sorsa’s portrayal is a journey, pulling us into the character’s tragedy and connecting us to the shared human experience. My wife and I were moved and engaged, much more than with any predictable Netflix series.
Watching “Painted Ponies” was a meaningful experience that sparked conversations all weekend. The hard work and talent behind this short play offer a raw slice of life that’s often overlooked. It reminds us we’re all in this together, and Sorsa’s journey fosters compassion and understanding.
“Painted Ponies” is a reminder of how theatre can deepen our understanding of the human condition.
