Original. Engaging. Universal. Relatable.
A greatly written original script. These are the type of scripts NEEDED IN BLACK CULTURE, not the Jim Crow and/or old slave tales. But with that also, the script/play is universally relatable; change a few cultural references, throw in an all-white cast and it lands just as perfectly. (sort of like Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and Death Of A Salesman; TRANSCENDS RACE!)
DEFINITELY WORTH SEEING during Hollywood Fringe BEFORE IT BECOMES A NATIONAL THEATRE SENSATION! Get it while it's NEW, CHEAP AND HOT, like the new young stripper in the club.
I'd definitely see it again, as it was real life, drama with excellent moments of perfectly landed jokes....

Wholesome, entertaining, and intentional with its writing. Solid and grounded performances. The Goodlucks uses Hollywood as a backdrop to explore family dynamics both unique to black families and universal to all families. It's a reminder of why we adore black theatre and new work, especially when it's both in one!...

The story was incredibly engaging and the cast worked super well together. It was both hilarious and touching. It was refreshing to see a story where POC are highlighted in a successful light. It unveiled a true struggle of what it means to represent your community. In a moment where one should feel proud of their success, this story highlights how hard it can be to feel the burden of representing your community and how competitive it can feel when your counterpart succeeds....

This was a fun time! There were some stand-out acting performances from the supporting actor who played George and the supporting actor who played the publicist/niece - they felt very natural and fun on stage and I wished for more scenes with them because they were just so dynamic whenever they were in a scene. It's an engaging piece with important themes, I just wanted to see a more nuanced emotional range from the two leads. Some of the emotional range felt wild and didn't make sense, but the push-pull between a married couple working through their ego as two actors was interesting and engaging. I also wished for more of the daughters story, a lot was said about her life offstage that I wished we'd gotten to see....
