Everything. The performances are mesmerizing, with each actor bringing a tenderness and dimensionality that elevates Mandy’s fun and thought-provoking characters. The story is brave and deeply cathartic, playfully illustrating the profound connection between past and present, trauma and transformation. Exploring such sensitive topics with authenticity and humor is an applaudable feat in and of itself, and there’s a reason the entire audience gave a standing ovation.
What I didn't like
Changing the heading to read: “What else I liked…” (writing is rewriting!)
The staging, performances, and atmosphere was so compelling that I want to see more. More productions, or more exploration of these characters, even. Fitting an 11-hour roadtrip into 60 minutes is tricky, but Dinosaurs pulls it off with a heartfelt levity that almost sparkles as it shines. Go see this show!
My overall impression
Woooof. Or, I should say, RAWRRRR XD
Dinosaurs is a show you do not want to miss! With an explosive blend of magical realism and spitfire dramedy, Dinosaurs rips an entire hole through the space-time continuum and brings you back to ancient wounds, offering powerful emotional resonance and an incisive humor that’s sharp as a knife (literally). It’s both refreshing and inspiring that this is a workshop production, because for a play that brings the Jurassic Age to the stage, it’s got a quite a future ahead of it.
