- The virtuosic performances present a slice of life that resemble the authenticity more of a documentary than scripted fiction.
- The direction enlists simple yet smart techniques that elevate the experience, adding to the entertainment value while not detracting from the grit or realism anchored in the original text.
- I appreciated the restraint applied to the environment (set, props, sound, lights). The relationship and humanistic stakes were on full display, centered around the deeply engaging performances.
What I didn't like
Only to increase the size of the theater and number of performances. It’s a shame more people wont have the privilege to experience such a powerful and touching piece of independent theater.
My overall impression
It’s hard to imagine a more engaging 50 minutes of narrative drama than this stunning and electric performance from Gouchoe and Nardelli. Simplified to it’s purest form, the emotional journey of these characters speaks directly to the heart of anyone lucky enough to be in the seats in front of them. Popovic’s direction is reserved and nuanced, providing subtle accents that heighten the emotional currency – making it hard, if not impossible to not fall in love with this brother and sister pair. By the end of the play, as the lights go down, they have captured our hearts – leaving us with a palpable and rich understanding of why the piece was written in the first place. Bravo.
