What I liked

It was beautifully written and crafted theatre.

What I didn't like

N/A. I felt that the performance was high quality, meticulously executed. I would say a post show Q&A would be great!

My overall impression

Yesterday, I had the pleasure to experience Bellina’s “Confessions of a Mulatto Love Child,” and I’m actually still reeling from its impact
. Bellina’s storytelling is so powerful that it feels like her words have been tattooed onto my consciousness. Her ability to share her story allowed me to tap into the very essence of who I am, exploring my own humanity, insecurities, and family dynamics.

This play has ignited in me a desire to live unapologetically. It’s made me yearn for family connections as profound as the soulmate-like bond Bellina shares with her mother. I felt like it was that type of bond. Each of her characters were portrayed with such solidity, their vices and strengths demonstrated through both spoken and unspoken means.

What struck me most was the humanization of New York City and Los Angeles inhabitants. The small, granular details of life on both costs told an amazing story in themselves, adding depth and texture to the overall narrative.

Bellina’s performance has given me a new lens through which to view my own family, encouraging me to embrace my experiences with a loving and witty eye. I also loved the physicality of the characters. The story of her father’s walk had me laugh so loud! And his ability to make that a cool THING. Her vulnerability on stage is a gift, one that continues to resonate with me long after the show’s end.

“Confessions of a Mulatto Love Child” is more than just a performance – it’s a transformative experience that has left me contemplating identity, family, and the human condition in ways I never expected.
