Go see Confessions of a Mulatto Love Child! This show was magnificent—impeccably conceptualized, directed, and performed. As a writer-performer, Bellina Logan writes to her own strengths: engaging storytelling, disappearance into fully realized characterizations (many, many characters), and don’t-f**k-with-me comic timing and chops. Her joy is our joy, her exhaustion is ours too; we share in her love as well as her grief. A very rare experience of a one-person show where the creator is sharing stories from her own life, yet manages to keep other characters at the center, avoiding self-mythologizing and sentimentality. Seriously great and unique.
