Bellina’s physicality, the variety of unique characters she brings to life, the humor in her portrayals, the power of love between a mother and daughter, her courage as an actress. Just as her mother took her by the hand, Bellina takes us along on the whirlwind ride of her life with her mother Averil, back and forth from Los Angeles to New York to London and beyond, embodying dozens of unique, vivid characters with distinct voices and mannerisms, most movingly her marvelous and maddening mother. Physically, the way she transforms her body to stride, clamber, charge, cower, dance, or sweep across the stage depending which character she is embodying, is an absolute tour de force. Through laughter and tears I was in absolute awe of her command of the stage and the variety of characters she seems to channel. Each one of them deserves a Tony and Bellina holds nothing back. So beautifully written, performed, and directed, this show is wildly entertaining. I can’t wait to see it again.
What I didn't like
The only thing this show needs is a proper long run, for however long Bellina wants to do it. It will sell out any theatre.
My overall impression
One of the most dramatic, powerful, and moving one person shows I’ve ever seen. It will make you laugh and cry no matter where you’re from, who you’ve loved or lost, or what you’ve lived through.
