From the program you learn that Sarah Bebb is a seasoned UCB improv comedy performer and that becomes very clear from the moment she speaks. Her ability to tell her story is so smooth, energetic, which a fantastic flow that she keeps up throughout. She also finds very creative ways to take you on this journey where I learned so much. I think this show has the ability to do well on any stage, but she could also make real money if she brings this into the medical world, at various symposiums and ted talk style or even medical corporate events.
What I didn't like
When I saw her blood sugar number jump up in real time (note to Sarah, it happened while watching the carb montage, very relatable!) I wanted to shout out to alert her. But I also really didn’t want to interrupt her performance. Maybe it’s not something she needs to know within seconds, I’m not sure. Maybe she can add an audience instruction on what to do if that happens? But that didn’t take away from the show & I’m so glad she has the tools she needs.
My overall impression
Sarah Bebb’s Sick Little Freak takes on the daunting task of making medical information about Diabetes 1 really funny and informative. What makes this show especially unique is the artful theatricality she uses to do more than demonstrate the various shots and medical tools her condition requires, she’s actually really doing all of these things. This window into her world transcends stories or videos in a remarkable way.
