Like 'The Handmaid’s Tale’, ‘1984' and ‘Angry Birds' before it, ‘What the Chuck?!’ is a dark satire set in an all-to0-easily forseeable future that still somehow manages to make me smile. Showing the danger of a authoritarian government agency riddles with bias determining whether or not anything crticizing it should be allowed to exist, the show is at once an absurd, prescient warning of what could be in store the future of American theatre and a love letter to one of its undersung greats. Will Thomas Mcfadden does an incredible job with this production, I want to spread the gospel and tell as many people as I can about this show. I was immediately taken by the opening number--as the D.R.A.M.A. agents state their task of censoring the plays of American Playwright CHARLES L. MEE. The dialogue, acting, direction and choeography kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Not only was the pkay suspensful, but I was laughing and gigling until the end. Absolutely superb. Great concept, well directed and executed, knockout performances. Extremely funny, especially for those of us that have grown up in the theater, and never does it feel like pandering to its fringe audience. A unique, memorable theatrical experience that will make you think in between the laughter. Also some great mask work. A crowd pleaser from start to finish.... full review
