What I liked
I think the show is really funny, and the jokes are handled really well. Abbey becomes weirdly vicious, and it’s fun. The end of scene three is fantastic, and built up to well.
The discussions between mother and daughter are really lovely. They are funny, true, and a little sad. Part great execution, part great chemistry between the actors:)
The structure of: Play, Discussion of Play, Discussion of Play with Author in Play(which is the play), then, Discussion of Play part 2 is really interesting.
I think it works great to cast the same actors in each track. I think it works well in fringe with limited production possibilities. Thank you for your show.
What I didn't like
The structure and content of the play later on will make it absurd, and I would have loved to just have reacted to the story of whatever is going on in the first scene. In this iteration, I felt confused by the choice to present text out to the audience, and a little confused about what was going on in general – although that might have been the point.
I think a recliner chair would benefit the characters immobility, and need for a caretaker. I also wish the kitchen had been onstage, as we could have benefitted from seeing yogurt being stolen behind Abbey’s back, and yogurt being drugged in secret too.
I also think there is more to explore in terms of what the writer needs from the character she’s written. It felt like a monologue about art, spoken between two people at times, and I lost the story. Really great overall, but these thoughts stayed on my mind after seeing it.
My overall impression
The show is very funny, and structurally engaging. The chemistry between the mother daughter duo is fantastic. Interesting production with nice twists throughout. Thanks for your work.
