I loved the way Soft Animal used bold physical comedy to make statements about society. The through line of worms made a show with insanely broad variety feel cohesive and organized. Additionally, the through line allowed the audience to draw compelling parallels between societal themes like corporate culture and religion.
What I didn't like
It’s tough to come up with much. My absolute favorite part of the show was the fact that almost every character transition happened onstage and we got to watch the characters morph from one to the next. As such, I was sad to have one character transition that happens during a blackout (after the corporate character) just because I enjoyed watching the other onstage transitions so much.
My overall impression
Soft Animal is weird in the best possible way with twists and turns, numerous precisely crafted characters, and a surprising amount of heart. It is invigorating to watch George literally evolve from one character to the next and I was on the edge of my seat at each transition to see who we would meet next. George’s performance is the perfect blend of audience interaction, bold physicality, and vulnerability. Go see this strange masterpiece of clown work!
