I thought the performance’s were wonderful. Specifically of Sunny and their raucous pancake making neighbor friend (sorry I forgot the name). I thought Sunny was earnest and sweet, and their humanity struck a chord with me. The vulnerability was palpable but it wasn’t knocking us over the head with tragedy. The writing was great in that way. The fun the whole crew seemed to be having only added to the tragedy of their inevitable displacement, it didn’t justify it. I also liked having to sit through the show in the blistering sun, not at first, but yeah man. Made me relate on a whole nother level. There’s no escape from the heat except in the smile of your friends as cheesy as it sounds it never felt true until I looked at the actors sweat bulleting off their brows and realized, and I quite High School Musical here, that we’re all in this together.
What I didn't like
I would only have maybe added an intermission or perhaps had someone hand out waters throughout, there was an ice chest which was very generous but because of the heat there was a certain point where I was distracted by the thought of acquiring water and wasn’t as immersed in the play as I know I should have/ could have been! But I didn’t plan on the show being as long as it was and the sun moving in all its ways which is on me more than you all!!! Bravo!!!
My overall impression
This shit is humanizing. This shit is earnest. This shit creates empathy- they leave no room for your comfort (literally).
