What I liked

I loved the interactive elements with the audience, providing us with sunscreen, menstrual products, food and drinks both in the real-world and within the world of the show, and the true sense of camaraderie between audience, characters, and performers. I loved the message we all were left with, and the calls to action to share resources and hygiene kits with our unhoused neighbors (provided by the production). My sunflower is still sitting on the dash of my car, as a reminder of this incomparable show. I cried the entire performance, and long after. I will not soon forget how this how has impacted me.

What I didn't like

I thought the Vanlyfe team executed everything flawlessly, which is not easy to do when seating audience members outside in a parking lot in the summer June heat for a 90-minute show. Absolutely incredible. I would love to see the show expanded in a bigger space and with mics for the performers so they can seat hundreds and be heard while performing this unbelievable piece. Absolute must-see at Fringe.

My overall impression

Vanlyfe is an absolute triumph. A masterpiece. I was completely and utterly blown away by this show. The writing, the acting, the immersive experience of the actual, real-life van and tents they performed in, everything was so well thought-out and carefully curated. This show BURSTS with heart and the earnest message of how important it is to take care of each other. With the current state of the world, and the current state of Los Angeles and the homelessness crisis, this show is a must-see for all. I left this show changed, and have recommended it to everyone I’ve come across since seeing it.
