The deeper meaning and relevance to the unkind world we live in / a ray of hope for love and humanity. The ending reminded me of the choice Shylock was forced to make to endure his survival in a similarly unkind world, and I appreciated that depth.
What I didn't like
Savor those moments of honesty and connection – I felt they were lost by the too quick joke – it’s OK for the audience to feel the awkward moments along with the characters.
Also – when changing set pieces, rehearse the flight patterns so that they move more smoothly / we could hear directions being whispered as items were being moved on and off.
My overall impression
What I love most about the HFF is the opportunity it provides for artists to create and try out new works. Like the characters in the play, Transpiring is in the process of figuring out who it is and how to say it. And I love getting to be along for the ride as Veronica and company find the core message. Wonderful energy / tight ensemble /clever script and libretto. I look forward to traveling with them as this show continues to develop.
