What I liked
Excellent mood-setting with limited tech. It made transitioning between time periods very clear. Great performances across the board, starting with Thomas Fiscella and Natalie Dressel as our heroes who can’t seem to get on the same page. Dressel’s plea to be taken into the field was effective and heartbreaking. Countering this is Guy Picot bouncing around between parts, memorably and hilariously as an oblivious constable. Crystal Keith and Casey McKinnon play their roles unapologetically and fiercely, bouncing between humor and grief. Jacob Sidney is silent, swift, and terrifying. Fiscella does excellent work being our window into this world as he tries to make sense of it all.
What I didn't like
I would love to see this play elongated. There are so many different places to go with it, it’d be great to see it fully rounded out.
My overall impression
In For A Penny is a haunting, funny, and ultimately mind-bending experience as it asks the bigger questions of what being saved really means. Especially in the face of unrelenting terror. Strong performances, creative tech, I want to see more!
