tough choices for the new century: a seminar for responsible living

What I liked

This show relied on the storytelling and the performers to get the messaging across and honestly, that is some of my favorite FRINGING! At times, it felt so conversational between these performers, I would not have guessed it was scripted… was it?!? The chemistry between these actors is also undeniable and I relished the comedic yumminess they created! Even in parody form, the characters let each other have it, so kudos for taking risks! Plus… they had an old school projector that warmed my heart :-)

What I didn't like

I’ll admit that I favored the beginning more with the married couple. When Arden came out to talk shop about gun protection, to me, that felt like it could have been a completely different show. While I appreciate the large umbrella of preparedness under which the premiss of this show falls, perhaps more could be mined with the couples’ reactions to natural disasters and how it affects them, their family members, etc. Food for thought.

My overall impression

I love myself a dark comedy to preach the morals about responsible living. And hey, we’d all like to think we know how to handle the next “big one” – whether that be earthquake, tornado, fire, hurricane (or even a potential mugging or worse). Luckily, we have actors Emily Yonker and Pete Eshewsky playing a dysfunctional married couple to guide us through the tough choices that we might have to make in order to save ourselves. I laughed in all the right (and wrong) places! This is my kind of seminar and I cheer on shows that share facts (loose and otherwise), going back in time, hysteria, and physical comedy!
