What I liked
I really liked the chemistry between Gaby and Levani! There was definitely a lot of trust, unspoken communication and FUN happening between them and it was apparent to the audience! Also, I liked the spontaneity and fast thinking they had to come up with as suggestions were being hurled at them! This entire concept is certainly original!
What I didn't like
The Broadwater’s Main Stage was a bit too large for this duo. While I know they needed space to dance, it’s really hard to fill the space with just two people. It might be interesting to add a few people to this dance/song/choose-your-own-adventure concept to expand on the idea. Perhaps creating songs together, some harmonies, and really flushing some things will make it a little more polished. Unless I’m mistaken, the dances were pre-choreographed (they kinda had to be, right?). No shame in that, it’s okay if not everything is improvised. Just a thought…
My overall impression
Stay With Me is a clever, audience participation show that allows folks to choose how the two performers will meet and potentially thrive (or not) in the course of their relationship (aka, the length of the show). Using dance, improvisation, instrument playing and singing, many different options are open to the audience. With a lot of artistry showcased, this cabaret show is pleasing to the eyes and ears!
