I appreciated Rachel’s commitment to the character; she nailed all the details and mannerisms that a real baby exudes. Her playful interactions with the crowd were so fun and never grew stale. I will sometimes watch shows with heavy audience interaction and wonder what the purpose of this piece was or what is the perspective the performer is trying to bring. Not with Baby, Rachel is in full command of her craft. She seamlessly slips from baby to clown to therapist. I loved every single moment she broke character to display her sharp and hilarious self-awareness to the audience. It was so satisfying to see how the performance comes full circle; it brought me to tears. I could watch this show again and again to find more meaning and laughs. Bravo Rachel!
What I didn't like
Depends on how you want to develop the piece. I loved it just as it is. You have the audience in the palm of your hand, so if you wanted to sit in the more heartfelt moments longer, that could potentially hit even deeper for the viewer.
My overall impression
Ahhh I loved this show!! One of my favorites from Hollywood Fringe 2024! Rachel is so poignant as a talking baby and I was blown away by the performance.
