It was structured and written incredibly well. Alli wove in some great musical moments and projects to add humor and keep the show moving and fun while it touched grappled with the incredible complex set of emotions that accompany the death of a close family member or parent. I haven’t lost a parent yet but I was still able to relate to every moment of self doubt, longing, confusion, anger and bitter abandon that Alli moved through during the show. If gave me hope that when the time comes I’ll be able to process that kind of loss in my own unique way just as Alli did.
What I didn't like
Replaying the piece in my head I really can’t come up with anything that I would change.
My overall impression
Very well done, well written and expertly performed. There are very few performers who can pull of a one-man show and entertain an audience solo for an hour. Even fewer that can take such a sensitive subject as the death of a imperfect parent touching, uplifting and hilarious. Alli Miller is one of those select few. She was funny, slightly abrasive but witty and full of energy (as always), but this show also showed us her vulnerability, love and the particular set of parental wounds that have made her the woman she is today.
