The actor’s command of the stage and his raw physical presence as he taps into the various central characters of the story. I felt he was really giving his all to the performance which showed itself at time through aggression, fear, rage and grief. Both very vulnerable and fully committed throughout.
What I didn't like
Would have loved even a little more backstory about the splintering between the brothers – what events caused the antagonist to really go to the dark side. Perhaps also an epilogue of what occurs to Billy as his family falls from grace.
My overall impression
Energetic, magnetic, powerful storytelling by Joe Coffey who packs a whirlwind punch of family, relationships, and American history in under an hour of theater. Really dynamic and layered from start to finish. A very personal take on two Boston brothers as they chase and fight for what’s truly important to them, even as it tears them and their families apart.
