Joe Coffey is ELECTRIC. As we journey through Whitey Bulger's life Joe kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time as he seamlessly transitioned between a family of characters. His energy fills the room and creates the momentum that carries us on a roller coaster of emotions. As for the writing, this solo play deserves to be published. The script along with Joe's colossal performance makes Bulger Boys a MUST-SEE in this year's Hollywood Fringe Festival. ...

Electrifying. Raw. Visceral.
Joe Coffey's 'Bulger Boys' grapples with the life of the famous Boston gangster, Jimmy (Whitey) Bulger and his public servant brother, Billy Bulger. With each twist of fate between these brothers, Coffey is able to shift effortlessly between each emotional pivot. A simple gesture, so pure, allows the audience to become fully engulfed in each character, from aging father to childhood brothers.
Coffey preforms at such a high level, this is worthy of a stage twice its size. If this is what Los Angeles theater has to offer, we now have the bar set higher by this performance. This is what the theater was made for. ...

It's very well written and extraordinarily performed. It pulls you in from the beginning and never lets you go. It transports you to the place and era in which the story takes place. Joe Coffey manages to distinctly play several characters with their unique mannerisms and accents, in a very raw and visceral way. There is also music and humor, and the story is quite compelling too. You get to learn about this tragic story from the different characters' personal points of view. It's interesting to see how two brothers who were raised in the same household can have very different mindsets, which eventually lead to very different outcomes in life....

Energetic, magnetic, powerful storytelling by Joe Coffey who packs a whirlwind punch of family, relationships, and American history in under an hour of theater. Really dynamic and layered from start to finish. A very personal take on two Boston brothers as they chase and fight for what's truly important to them, even as it tears them and their families apart. ...
