I loved the moments between Christopher and his father, scripted and unscripted. The final moment of the show when Christopher recites a letter in Spanish to his father was the ultimate ending to a harrowing tale. I don’t speak Spanish myself, so I’ll never know what he said, but tears were streaming down my face as Christopher laid his heart out for his father to see. I’d say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Christopher shared his hopes of doing a similar formatted show with his Mother and siblings, and I will be clearing my schedule to make sure I’m there when it happens.
What I didn't like
Some sound moments were played as tracks over the sound system, and some from Christopher’s phone. Some playback consistency would be great so we don’t have to worry about it and can just focus on Christopher. So minor, everything else was fabulous.
My overall impression
This show was incredible. I was absolutely blown away by Christopher’s storytelling abilities, but his vulnerability is what really made this show sing. When I first heard what Christopher’s show was about, I didn’t know what to expect; but seeing the show come to fruition after months of preparation and anticipation for his father to join him in Hollywood totally exceeded my expectations. It’s clear that though his father is a ham, he is not a professional performer. The unpredictability and rawness of this show created an incredibly unique experience that can never be replicated – and that is the beauty of live performance.
